Welcome to Legacies Genealogy Research (the “Site”), operated by Legacies Genealogy Research (“Legacies,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). Your payment for research or commissioned deliverables—including genealogical reports, books, presentations, or private consultation—constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
We provide:
- Professional genealogical research and document analysis
- Customized deliverables including reports, charts, books, family history publications, and multimedia presentations
- Research and source documentation
- Contextual analysis
- Project terms, scope, and deliverables will be outlined inwriting and confirmed prior to commencement.
YoYou agree to:
- Provide all relevant family data, prior research, and materials before work begins
- Avoid parallel independent research on the same lines under investigation during the project
- Not send irreplaceable original records unless authorized in advance
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for clarification or information
- A deposit is required before the start of any project. The remaining balance is due prior to delivery of final materials.
- Hourly services require prepayment in 10-hour increments.
- Pre-authorization of a separate incidental expense fund (e.g.10% of research budget) may be requested for certificates, document fees, or travel.
- Refunds are based on unspent time or incomplete deliverables, minus a processing fee (typically 10%). Refunds are not based on specific research outcomes or lack of discoverable results.
We strive for accuracy and source citation but cannot guarantee findings due to the limitations of historical records. Negative searches, conflicting sources, or ambiguous relationships are documented in your final report. Legacies shall not be held liable for gaps or inconclusive results due to unavailable records or conflicting evidence.
All research materials created by Legacies—including written reports, genealogical charts, books and visual presentations—remain the intellectual property of Legacies Genealogy Research unless a separate written agreement grants transfer of rights.
You are granted a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use deliverables for personal and family use, including:
- Reprinting or adapting content in family newsletters, private books (from research reports), or personal websites (with proper attribution), including any quantitative words, such as likely, possibly, or perhaps, to not modify the original intent of conclusions
- Sharing with family members and descendants
For publication in commercially distributed books or media:
- You may adapt and incorporate our research findings into a family history book or memoir you author, provided we are credited in the acknowledgments section (e.g., “Research by Legacies Genealogy Research, www.LegaciesGenealogy.com”).
- If you wish to publish the research verbatim (i.e., reports or charts exactly as delivered), you must request and receive written permission.
- Our branding (logos, template elements) may not be used or reprinted without express authorization.
- By default, your materials are licensed for non-commercial use only, unless specific commercial publication rights are purchased or granted in writing.
We respect your privacy:
- Personal information and family materials you provide are confidential
- Publicly shared materials may be used in educational talks, case studies, or marketing, with the names of living individuals modified or redacted
- We will not share your contact details or allow third-party outreach without your express consent.
By using our services, you agree to allow Legacies Genealogy Research to retain digital files associated with your project—including research notes, scanned documents, correspondence, and deliverables—for a period of six (6) months after final delivery.
This is to accommodate follow-up requests, reproduction of materials, or additions to the research.
After six months, your project files may be securely deleted unless a data extension is requested in writing.
We recommend you download and store all project deliverables upon completion.
Typical project timelines range from 2-6 months depending on complexity, record availability, and client communication.
Delays caused by archive closures, international requests, or evolving scope will be communicated in writing.
In the unlikely event we are unable to complete your project due to illness, incapacity, or other interruption:
- You will receive all research and files completed to date
- A refund will be provided for any unbilled work
- We will help you transition to another professional genealogist of your choice if needed
Legacies is not liable for damages or losses arising from:
- Research based on incomplete or inaccurate client data
- Errors in historical records beyond our control

Our total liability shall not exceed the fees paid by the client for the specific project in question.
All disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration in the State of Texas, unless mutually agreed otherwise.
You agree to attempt mediation prior to initiating arbitration.
These Terms of Service may be updated periodically.
The most current version will always be available at www.LegaciesGenealogy.com.
